Since its founding in 1990 the Aim High Silver Bullets Youth Organization has lead the way in providing quality and professional youth sports programs for boys and girls on Long Island. NEW for 2008 is the opening of the new home of the Silver Bullets - the Interstate Sports Academy (www.isasportsacademy.com). A state of the art recreational facility conveniently located in Sayville, Long Island.
The Silver Bullets were founded by Debbie Brajevich, former St. John's University player and coach and John Girvan, winner of two CHSAA state titles at Our Lady of Mercy Academy. With professional administration and instruction, the program has sent over 150 players on to the collegiate level and several now play professionally - the most recent being the NY Liberty's Shay Doron.
Our alumni are NY State record holders, collegiate hall of famers, McDonald's All Americans, High School All Americans, FIBA professionals (overseas professional league) and even WNBA members. Our current teams consist of AAU National Champions, USA Basketball program invitees, Street and Smith's HS All Americans and several of Long Island's current top players.
Even more impressive are the careers the players have achieved after their playing days were completed. doctors, lawyers, teachers, athletic trainers, business leaders and yes, high school and college coaches. The Aim High Silver Bullets Youth Program reaches young athletes - especially those at risk - and gives them the training, information and guidance they need to reach the potential that resides in all of our young people.
In the past two years the Silver Bullets have had over 25 players go on to DI, DII and DIII colleges. College Recruiting coordinator and Silver Bullets Girls Basketball program director Leon Martin oversees each players development and as a former DI athlete and college coach himself - gives parents and players the information they need to maximize the potential for athletic and academic scholorship opportunities. Leon's works tirelessly with all Silver Bullets team members and parents as well as players and parents from programs all over the Metro NY area who come to him for college recruiting consultation and advice.
Co-founder Debbie Brajevich brings 35+ years of experience at all levels of the game as both a player and a coach. Cited by Newsday as one of Long Island's all time great players in the history of girls basketball, Debbie is a two sport All American (basketball, softball) with collegiate coaching experience at DI and DII levels. Her knowledge, experience and leadership help make the Aim High Silver Bullets Youth Organization a model for other programs to emulate. Many youth program directors come to Debbie for advice and information and her many years of experience are a resource that is tapped by many.
Now entering its 18th year the Aim High Silver Bullets Youth Organization staff and administrators continue to voluntarily give their time and energy to help provide opportunities for today's youth.
